The Quran is a guidebook for all Muslims. The Quran is a holy book that has solutions to all problems. As Muslims, we must learn and read Quran daily. It not only softens our hearts but also tells us how to use our lives. It contains solutions to all the problems that a person may face. There are endless rewards and benefits of learning reciting the Holy Quran.

Rewards of Reciting the Quran:

Surely the Quran is not like any other book, these are the Words of Allah that are timeless and a study guide for life and after death. It should therefore be read more carefully than anyone else’s speech. Quran brings many rewards for its reciters because it is the way through which we can communicate with Allah Almighty. It can bring benefits such as purification of the heart, protection from evil eyes and diseases, way to the right path, and hence we can become a better Muslim every day.

In the light of the Quran and Hadith, we can see how Allah almighty rewards us by reading Quran in this world and hereafter. Some of these are:

  • Allah Almighty says about Holy Quran that:

“This is the Book (the Quran), whereof there is no doubt, guidance to those who are Al-Muttaqoon [the pious]” (Quran, 2:2)

  • Holy Quran protects us from hell on judgment day. As in the worlds of prophet Muhammad (PBUH) :

“Read the Quran, for verily it will come on the Day of Standing as an intercessor for its companions.” (Sahi Muslim)

  • Our holy prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said about the rewards of the Quran:

“Whoever recites ten Ayahs (verses) in qiyaam will not be recorded as one of the forgetful. Whoever recites a hundred Ayahs (verses) in qiyaam will be recorded as one of the devout, and whoever prays a thousand Ayahs (verses) in qiyaam will be recorded as one of the muqantareen (those who pile up good deeds).” (Abu Dawood)

Benefits and Virtues of Reading the Quran:

Allah (SWT) has ordered us to read, understand and analyze every verse of the Quran. The holy Quran is the best gift for all humanity, not only for Muslims. Every verse in the Quran is so unique that no one can rewrite a single verse like it. There are many benefits and virtues of reading the Quran:

  • Reward and virtue for every letter of Quran reading:

Not 1 ayah, not 1 word, not 1 surah, you will be rewarded with ten virtues by reading just 1 letter of the Quran. Sayyidatina Hazrat Aisha (R.A) reported:

مَن قَرَأَ حَرْفًا مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ فَلَهُ بِهِ حَسَنَةٌ وَالْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا لاَ أَقُولُ الم حَرْفٌ وَلَكِنْ أَلِفٌ حَرْفٌ وَلاَمٌ حَرْفٌ وَمِيمٌ حَرْفٌ ‏

“Whoever recites a letter from Allah’s Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter” (Sunan At-Tirmizi)

  • Quran- the Source of guidance:

As human beings, we always need anyone to talk with and share our problems. Reading Quran is one of the methods by which Allah communicates with us and solves our problems by showing the light of the right path. Allah (SWT) mentioned that Quran is the source of guidance and light in a few Surahs as:

كِتابٌ أَنزَلناهُ إِلَيكَ لِتُخرِجَ النّاسَ مِنَ الظُّلُماتِ إِلَى النّورِ

“A Book We have sent down to you so that you may bring forth mankind from the darkness into the light.” (Surah Ibrahim, 14:1)

  •  Quran Calms the Soul.

Reciting the Quran is part zikir (remembrance). It is also an Ibadah form. As mentioned in Quran, whoever does zikir or read Quran, and then he receives calms and satisfaction of the soul:

الَّذينَ آمَنوا وَتَطمَئِنُّ قُلوبُهُم بِذِكرِ اللَّهِ ۗ أَلا بِذِكرِ اللَّهِ تَطمَئِنُّ القُلوبُ

Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah, hearts are assured” (Surah Ar-Ra’ad, 13:28)

  • The Quran is made easy for us.

Allah (SWT), repeatedly tells in the Quran that he made it easy to learn and remember the Quran. In surah Al-Qamar he says four times:

وَلَقَد يَسَّرنَا القُرآنَ لِلذِّكرِ فَهَل مِن مُدَّكِرٍ

And We have certainly made the Quran easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? (Surah Al-Qamar, 54:17)

Reading Quran at Fajr:

Fajr has much more important than any other time of the day. We should read Quran at Fajr due to following reasons:

Fajr recitation witnessed by the angel:

Whenever we read Quran at Fajr, angels attended the recitation as in Quran Allah (SWT) says:

“Establish prayer at the decline of the sun [from its meridian] until the darkness of the night and [also] the Quran of dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed.” (17:78)

A special time of Zikir:

In Quran and Hadith, Zikir in Fajr is highly emphasized. Allah (SWT) is Quran says:

“So be patient, [O Muhammad], over what they say and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting,”(50:39)
