Every chapter of the Quran has its significance and benefits, just like Surah Yaseen. There are countless benefits of reciting Surah Yaseen, as the Surah has special significance. The Quran is sent down on humankind as a blessing; in it are lessons that help us live a life that pleases Allah. Different chapters of the Quran hold different messages and rewards. Some chapters, however, have more significance than the others, and Surah Yaseen is one of those chapters.

Muslims worldwide learn and memorize Surah Yaseen due to its countless blessings and reward in the world and the hereafter. There is a reason why Muslims give so much importance to Surah Yaseen, and that is the various hadith that talk about the importance of the Surah and the reward for reciting it. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) referred to Surah Yaseen as the heart of the Quran, making it special for Muslims.

Why Surah Yaseen is Called Heart of the Quran?

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Surely everything has a heart, and the heart of the Quran is Yaseen. I would love that it be in the heart of every person of my people.” (Tafsir-al- Sabuni Vol.2) This hadith tells us that Surah Yaseen is undoubtedly a special surah. Reciting any part of the Quran carries great benefit; every letter gives us ten rewards, then imagine the reward one gets for reciting the heart of the Quran.

However, there is a reason why Surah Yaseen is called the heart of the Quran.  Surah Yaseen has 83 verses, and these verses can be divided into three themes; Tauheed, Risalah, and the day of judgment.  To understand the significance of Surah Yaseen, one needs to understand the significance of these three themes.

Tauheed:

Tauheed is the declaration of the oneness of Allah.  In Surah Yaseen, Allah mentions that he is the Supreme power that controls the entire universe and every little thing in it.  He has no weakness and decides everything, including who believes in Him and who doesn’t.

Risalah

Risalah means the declaration that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the Prophet of Allah and has been sent down to humankind for their betterment.

In Surah, Yaseen Allah mentions, “Tell them, for instance, the story of the people of the habitation when the Messengers came to it. We sent them two Messengers, and they denied both. Then. We sent a third one to strengthen them, and they all said, “We have been sent to you as Messengers.” The people said, “You are no more than men like us, and the Merciful God has sent down nothing. You are only telling a lie.” (Al-Quran 36-13 to 36-15)

This hadith means that Allah confirms that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is His Prophet and that if his people are rejecting him, he is not the first to through that.

The Day of Judgment

Surah Yaseen also talks about the Day of Judgment and how it will be.  For instance, the Surah says that it will come suddenly in one blast, and people will no longer have the chance to make a wish or return to their homes. Allah will resurrect the dead from their graves, and the people who denied the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’ s message will suffer the consequences.

These important themes clarify why Surah Yaseen is called the Heart of the Quran.

Tauheed, Risalah, and the belief in the Day of Judgment are the core beliefs of Islam, and since Surah Yaseen highlights all three of them, it summarizes the Quran and hence is known as the Heart of Quran.
